Workspace Makeover: THE FINISHED PRODUCT!

>> Thursday, March 4, 2010

Well, without further ado, here it is! My new kitchen nook / workspace! Its a small little space but its filled with inspiration and organized supplies for easy access and crafting time!

I bought all my white storage containers and files from The Container Store, the shelfing unit from IKEA (now only $69!). I used apothecary jars to hold my labels and paint brushes, and repurposed candle sticks (made by my friend Ellie) to hold my twine & string. I reused one some of my wedding decorations to hold cards and paper goodies I've collected...and I framed some Kraft paper and use drafting tape (easily removeable) to create inspiration boards that can change on a whim!

This table is something I found at the fabulous Alameda Flea Market the first time I went with Allegra. It's a vintage card table from London and is one of my favorite colors! I love that it can fold up if I need extra space too....oh ya, and it was only $40!

How cute are the Emerson Made flowers I won?!?!?! I'm mildly obsessed...

Make sure you check out our House Tour on Apartment Therapy today for more pics of our little city nest! The wonderful Jess Watson has taken the most fabulous photos of our home! THANK YOU JESS!

Workspace Makeover: More Before Shots & A Preview!

>> Wednesday, March 3, 2010

So tomorrow is the Big Reveal of my Workspace Makeover! Not only that, but our entire place will be featured on Apartment Therapy!! Crazy, right!? Well I have been styling and cleaning and organizing like a champ to get my workspace AND home in photo-ready condition. So make sure you check in tomorrow for all of the amazing photos (shot by photographer & blogger extraordinaire, Jess Watson).

In the meantime, here are some before shots of the space. And by before, I mean before I even moved in and cluttered it up!

It's basically my kitchen nook. You see, in SF, square footage is hard to come by (and expensive), and storage is basically nonexistent. So you have to get creative....

Above: BEFORE I moved in

Below: AFTER I moved in (and before the GIANT overhaul)

And finally, here is a sneak peek at the finished product....siiiiiigh. I am in love with this image, and there are MANY more to come tomorrow! Stay tuned!

Happy Birthday Annie!

>> Wednesday, February 10, 2010

Today is my youngest sister, Annie's, birthday! We celebrated her special day over Sister's Weekend with a Baker's Dozen of cupcakes from Miette Patisserie & Confiserie (one of our favorite bakeries...thanks Mom for ordering them for us!!!).

Miette has the CUTEST branding, packaging and sweet treats EVER! We definitely LOVE the Old Fashioned cupcakes: bittersweet chocolate with marshmallow frosting! YUM!

Happy Birthday, Sis! Wish we were still all in the city stuffing our face with cupcakes and celebrating together! LOVE YOU!

First Annual Sisters Weekend in SF

>> Thursday, February 4, 2010

Tomorrow, my two younger sisters arrive in San Francisco for the FIRST annual Sister's Weekend! My Christmas gift to them this past year was a weekend together in the city, and it's FINALLY arrived!

Lots of fun plans are in the works including celebrating my youngest sister's birthday, some SERIOUS eating (because in our family, food is a number one priority, let's be honest), shopping, laughing and just plain sister time! The hus has been kicked out of the house, and it's a 100% boy-free zone for the next 48 hours. HECK. YES.

We will hopefully have lots of pics to share next week, including a trip to the Alameda Point Antiques & Collectibles Fair, dinner at our FAVE restaurant, Superbowl Sunday Funday, and maybe even some thrift store shopping, crafting/baking, or sightseeing fun! I CANNOT wait!

P.S. TODAY is the last day to enter the giveaway, so make sure you enter to WIN!!

Parking Day 2009

>> Tuesday, September 22, 2009

This year I actually got to participate in Parking Day 2009 (perhaps a "perk" to my recent furlough Fridays?), and was so excited about it!  Amanda and I had our morning bagel and coffee at my favorite neighborhood cafe: Caffe Greco.  We sat in our delightful parking spot and sipped out of our giant latte mugs and enjoyed the amazing SF weather.  One more thing I love about this city!

The merchants in North Beach loved the flexible dining so much, they extended their parking patios through the weekend all along Columbus Avenue.  It was seriously awesome!  For more about what Parking Day is, and how extremely successful it was this year, check out StreetsblogSF.org!

Architecture and the City Festival 2009

>> Friday, August 28, 2009

The 6th Annual AIA SF Architecture and the City Festival is coming up!  The nation's largest architectural festival boasts a schedule filled with tours, bike rides, lectures, and LOTS more!  The theme this year is Everday, Design which "celebrates the many smart, ingenious and unexpected ways design impacts our daily lives, unveiling the unseen hand of the designer in everything from civic and institutional works to landscaping and residential design."

Here are just a few of the amazing architectural buildings you can tour this year:
The DELICIOUS Stable Cafe in the Mission (by architect Malcom Davis)...a renovated old stable building turned coffee shop/cafe and office/work space.
I looove the interior of Stable Cafe....it's my idea of perfection: old meets new and LOTS of natural elements and WOOD (hello amazing beams!).
***
Then there's this AMAZING Victorian renovation in Bernal Heights (by architect Studio Sarah Willmer Architecture)
***
This Victorian remodel in the Haight (by Mork-Ulnes Design) is fantastic!  I am obsessed with the eaves and dormer windows and the exposed brick....siiiiiiiigh!
***
And then there's the Ames Alley Cottage (by Boor Bridges Architecture), which used to be home to Betty Mae's School of Tap for over 30 years begining in the 1940's!
***
This year there will also be a tour of one of my favorite local ceramic studios: Heath Ceramics in Sausalito, which is celebrating it's 50th Anniversary.
Sign me up!  For more info on all of the events click here.  There are seriously SO MANY amazing tours and lectures and bike rides and even the new series: Dining by Design, where you can sign up to have a "dinner focused on urban architecture" with a meal prepared with all local ingredients by Chef Nicole LoBue.  YUM!

Blog Out Loud

>> Thursday, August 13, 2009

I think I want/need to go to this event....

From Blog Out Loud's site:

Please join us for an evening of  inspiring and informative conversation, conducted  by a panel of established bloggers. We will share our own blogging experiences with you and engage in a town-hall style Q & A.

Enjoy the evening, meet some creative people, have a glass of wine and be inspired to start your own creative blog and connect.

Doesn't that sound just lovely?  And two of my favorite bloggers are on the panel this year:

Coco + Kelley and The City Sage.

Renegade Recap

>> Monday, July 20, 2009

Renegade Craft Fair was pretty darn cool.  I definitely came home inspired and tired (no rhyme intended)!  It was BIG and therefore overwhelming...it literally took Jess and I making twenty laps around Fort Mason looking at all the booths and then actually leaving for a lunch break in order to process everything, before we could commit to making some purchases!  I LOOOVE the prints I (finally) bought from here, here, and here.

Here are some of my fave images Jess took during our outing:

{bad Emily forgets where this is from....please tell me if you know? I do know that I LOVED how the necklaces were displayed on vintage drawer knobs attached to an awesome mod fabric!}

Ok, but seriously, Jess took all the pictures (with her awesome camera) and wrote a way better blog synopsis of our afternoon at Renegade.  Check out her post for more pics, info, and witty banter (and even a picture of me wearing a green mustache and beard - haha!).

P.S.  F&F really, REALLY wants to have a booth at Renegade next year....
